Maroubra Beach

Set between the low sandstone headlands of Maroubra and fronted by Marine Parade, Maroubra Beach is the ideal place for some fun in the sun. Just 20 minutes by car from the city and the airport the one kilometre long swimming and surf beach is patrolled by the Maroubra & South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Clubs and council beach inspectors.

From here you may start the breathtaking coastal walk to Coogee, Clovelly and on from there for a few kilometers to Bondi. Discover the inspiring beauty that The Sports Coast has to offer as you walk or jog around the ever-changing coast line. If time is limited simply stroll along the beachfront promenade with its vista of wild and thunderous ocean.

Stop for a coffee or a bite to eat at the Pavilion Café (8347 0055) and enjoy the beach view in the outdoor dining area. Open for breakfast and lunch, the café is BYO and also offers take away from the kiosk.

Open to the Pacific Ocean , Maroubra Beach has consistent surf, the sets arriving with power and driven by an east, south or north-easterly swell. Annual surf carnivals attract large crowds and international competitors to the laid-back surfing community. Take your board and ride the waves at either end of the beach.

Never surfed? Have some fun and join in one of the Learn to Surf Classes available at Sydney Safer Surf School and Safaris (9365 4370.) For all ages, the surf school teaches water and beach safety as well as how to get out there and ride those waves. Maroubra and South Maroubra Beaches are perfect places for family and friends to gather and be active in the great outdoors. Take a picnic or walk along the small shopping strip, opposite the promenade to browse and enjoy a variety of shops, restaurants, cafés and other take away outlets.

With parental supervision, small children can play safely in the well equipped children’s playground adjacent to the promenade. Children will have fun interacting in this shaded playground that is safely fenced. For the older kids, Maroubra Beach is home to one of the best skate parks in Australia. Located next to the surf club, it’s a sight to see as the skaters make their way around the large course and show off their talent in the deep concrete bowl.
